Who is Ed Browne?
"I have always been fascinated
and inspired by the Sonoran Deserts' history,
multiple cultures, blooming plants and mountainous
landscapes. As vast as it is, it's just a microcosm
of the world in which we live." Ed Browne
Originally from Colorado Springs,
Ed's family moved to Arizona in 1960 when Ed was
6 years old. As a child, Ed was inspired by his
grandfather's paintings. He began to draw and
paint at an early age.
After completing his military
duty in San Diego for the United States Navy,
Ed returned to Arizona. Mostly as a self-taught
artist, Ed studied briefly at Phoenix College
in Arizona under artist, Merrill Mahaffey. Ed
went onto a career as a carpenter and mason, still
painting as a hobby in the evenings. In 2000 Ed
was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer and
underwent radical neck surgery, followed by enduring
months of radiation therapy. It was during this
long recovery that Ed realized that he would no
longer be able to pursue a career as a tradesman.
With the grace of God, Ed went into remission
then decided to return to his first love of art
and began painting.
You will notice that "thorns"
appear in every painting that Ed has painted since
his illness. The "thorns" are Ed's way of praising
God for helping him endure the battle of his life.
As the thorns in the crown of Christ represent
Jesus love for us, Ed's "thorns" represent his
praise and love for God.
Ed paints the nature of the Southwest,
with refined attention to detail and bold, uplifting
use of color.
As as award winning artist and
a Juried member of the Arizona Artist Guild, Ed's
paintings are becoming increasingly popular throughout
the Southwest.
As an emerging new artist with
the ability to capture the essence of light, colorful
inner beauty and form with a realistic contemporary
style all his own.
Art is filled with personal connections
and myriad emotion.
"I want the viewer to look into
my paintings and see beyond the brush strokes
and feel the harshness as well as the beauty."
